Well, your Council put a great deal of effort into achieving the award of Quality status, but has received virtually no reward for doing so. If the White Paper proposals pass through Parliament and onto the statute books, the most exciting provision will be for Quality councils to start exercising the powers of “well-being”, currently reserved for principal councils, in the Local Government Act 2000. In a nutshell, this means that your Council will be entitled to do anything which is thought to be beneficial to the Parish, and will not be constrained by the need to identify a direct benefit for the residents only.

Playground

This is a problem that continues to plague us. Each year, we have it properly inspected, for insurance purposes, and each year we have patched-up any items which have been deemed to be sub-standard. Now we feel we have just about come to the end of the road, as most items are worn-out.

Councillors Sue Gibson and Sue Hewett have got together to form a Working Group, to look at proposals for a completely new Playground. Where we will get the money from is a question that will have to be faced later. For now, it is necessary to determine what we would like. If you would like to inject your ideas, now is your chance.
