Ashmeadow House
How nice it was to see the house restored to its former glory, when it was officially opened, by the Duchess of Gloucester.  It is now split into 10 apartments, with communal facilities, for elderly residents.

The Tide Siren
South Lakeland District Council can no longer afford to operate the siren and has asked various other bodies, including the Parish Council, to take it over.  Whether, or not, the Parish Council would wish to take it over is rather academic - it just doesn’t have the power to do so.  The main thing is to ensure that this very important facility is maintained, so as to help to protect both resident and visitor alike.

The proposed Multi-Wheeled Park
This is normally referred to as the proposed skateboard park, because that is likely to be the biggest usage.  The proposals have just received Planning Permission for construction on the War Memorial Playing Field.  The Parish Council has yet to specify their own condition for the use of this area.

Firework Display
In previous years this has been held on November 5th, but the date falls on a Sunday, this year.  It has therefore been decided to hold the event on Saturday November 4th.  The Fireworks have already been ordered, and we are looking forward to this family celebration.

The Cemetery Chapel
At last, most of the work is complete, and the building is comfortably habitable.  Electricity and mains water services have now been installed.  The toilet (suitable for Disabled People) is installed, and the “Trench Arch” sewerage system is operational.  The building extension is complete, and the new access point to the Chapel (Disabled-Friendly) has now been formed.
The Parish Council has now moved to the new premises, and an office has been formed so that this can become a permanent base for the hitherto ‘nomadic’ Council.  We are still in a state of chaos, because the carpet tiles for the office and corridor have only just been laid.  However, we hope to be in better order by the end of this week.
There is still a need to raise around £10,000 for other items, to properly finish the job, e.g. tarmacced car parking, but that should not seriously hamper our enjoyment in occupying this beautiful building.
We have received several enquiries for the hire of the main building, but we are hanging-back a bit, to ensure that our fees are compatible with those charged by the Educational Institute.  In the near future, we hope to be able to offer a Broadband Wi-Fi connection to our telephone line.  Although the toilet will be complete, the kitchen will need some further fittings before it becomes useable.
On June 10th, our Member of Parliament, Tim Farron, came to officially open the Chapel complex. The day was extremely hot and sunny, but everyone seemed to enjoy the occasion.
On 1st July, we appointed a cleaner for the Chapel.  As yet he has been prevented from swinging into action, because there is too much clutter in the wrong place.  However, when we get ourselves sorted-out, Graham will be able to get everything nice and tidy, ready for our lettings.
Playground
This is a problem that continues to plague us..  Each year, we have it properly inspected, for insurance purposes, and each year we have patched-up any items which have been deemed to be sub-standard.  Now we feel we have just about come to the end of the road, as most items are worn-out.
Councillors Sue Gibson and Sue Hewett have got together to form a Working Group, to look at proposals for a completely new Playground.  Where we will get the money from is a question that will have to be faced later.  For now, it is necessary to determine what we would like.  If you would like to inject your ideas, now is your chance.  In the first instance, contact either of the two Sues, on the numbers shown below, with a view to joining the Working group.
